They purchased the Oakland Elementary School , also located in Elwood to renovate it for their corporate headquarters. It was built in 1956, added on to in 1962 and went through a major renovation in 2004. It is a great location for them. It is 9 blocks from the Elwood manufacturing plant and 6 miles from the Orestes plant and distribution center. It also has special meaning to Brian Reichart, CEO of Red Gold. He was a student at Oakland Elementary. One of the hand painted murals painted on the walls in the school corridors, was kept as a reminder of the past history of the building.
It was a very fast track 3 million dollar renovation. Demolition began in September, 2011 and staff starting moving into the building in January, 2012. Red Gold’s project manager, Dallas Conrad supervised the demolition , construction and transition. He credits the success of this project to having a good team.
