This week’s Ask OMS topic relates to the definition of sustainable.  The purpose of our Ask OMS feature is for you to post your questions related to architecture, and then we’ll provide the answers.  One question that we get asked frequently is in regards to creating buildings using sustainable materials, which leads us to this week’s word and definition.

Sustainable – of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged.

A diagram showing a sustainable living space is shown in the image below.  Sustainable structures could have one or many of the components shown in the image provided depending on local climate factors and specific user needs.
